Growing a NW Wind Industry: Beyond Installation Only

Transmission capacity, siting and service issues are becoming frequent topics among the region's wind managers and installers. Can we build the region's economy to service current and future wind farms and build an economic base of manufacturing, maintenance and service? Come join us for our 3rd annual forum, and help launch the effort to identify the paths necessary to address these critical issues.

We Need Your Input.

Please take a few minutes to share your input from your experience at our summit this year, and let us know how we should proceed.

Growing a NW Wind Economy
Moving Beyond Installation

Summit 2009 A Hit!

Our Third Annual 2009 NW Energy Summit was a tremendous success.

The summit drew nearly 300 attendees (a complete sell-out) and featured nearly 40 speakers and panelists, including Senator Ron Wyden, FERC Commissioner Phil Moeller, U.S. Congressman Jay Inslee, and representatives from all major wind manufaturers, farm operators, utilities, educational groups and others.  Participants asked over 70 questions during the day and filled out more than response 60 cards.

Unlike the solar, ocean wave, biofuels and fuel cell industries, there is no existing NW wind association. Many participants in the conference believe that the region needs an organization to help coordinate and communicate among wind users, utilities, equipment manufactures and suppliers, education and workforce experts, state and local economic development agencies and others.  We are currently surveying the conference participants, and will report back on the agreed upon next steps.

Other regions have formed a united voice to advocate for their areas.  The NW risks falling behind on this national race for wind production and manufacturing sites.  Our effort is to ensure that the region remains at the forefront of the wind economy.

Thanks again for participating, and stay tuned!
